Evergreen branches make for some of the quickest centerpieces in the land of DIY. They can also be big money savers if you gather trimmings from your own yard or Christmas tree, friends and neighbors or even from a Christmas tree lot. While they can be secured in vases, baskets and such with foil, florist foam or frogs… such fussing is really not needed!
Simply laying branches in a pattern suited to the display area, such as a long stretch of them across a mantel or a circle of greens at the center of a round dining table gets you halfway to gorgeous. Mixing layers of different types, such as spruce and pine, adds dimension and richness. Complete the display by adding bling from what you have on hand - fruits, candles, ribbon, ornaments, etc. – to nestle into the branches.
If you're not crunched for time, one more step before and one after placing the branches can bring your arrangement up another notch or two. A table runner or large glitzy tray can serve as a base layer beneath the branches - especially if they need to be set off a bit from the display surface. A string of mini-lights can be placed beneath, or nested into, the branches for more sparkle.
