Amaryllis Card

Amaryllis

The common name of Amaryllis comes from the Greek for sparkling, while its botanical name of Hippeastrum, meaning horse star, refers to the flower shape. Brilliant Red Amaryllis are said to symbolize love and radiant beauty.

Christmas Cactus

Christmas Cactus

Popular as a houseplant since the early 1800's, Christmas cactus are native to rainforests not deserts. These holiday beauties can live for decades and are often handed down through families.

Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose

Christmas roses are not true roses and bloom in the depths of winter in their native mountains. They do not work well for cut bouquets, but stem-less blooms look stunning floated in a shallow bowl of water.

Cyclament

Cyclamen

Depictions of the butterfly-like blooms of Cyclamen were a favorite of Leonardo Da Vinci for decorating the margins of his manuscripts. In the language of flowers, the fluttery blooms are said to represent sincerity.

Paper WHites

Paper Whites

While Paper Whites do bloom in gardens of the south during the winter, they are most popular for forcing in indoor dish gardens. Paper Whites, with their dainty white blooms, are cousin to bigger, bold-bloomed Daffodils.

Poinsettia

Poinsettia

Poinsettias were known at least as far back as Aztec times, when they were used for medicine and making red dye. These days we can go way beyond red for our holiday Poinsettias and enjoy newer varieties in colors from plum to pink–speckled ivory.
