The flowers you buy at the garden center in the spring likely began life growing in a commercial greenhouse. The greenhouse industry has a rich and interesting heritage. Largely made up of family businesses, they were started by immigrants, many coming from Holland, Germany and other parts of Europe, where flower growing was a big part of their culture.
MyGardenInsider is pleased to introduce Andy Krieger, 'The Garden Helper'. Andy is a forth generation flower grower in Jefferson, Iowa. He has a passion for gardening and deep understanding of plant care. The Garden Helper, will be a regular video feature on MyGardenInsider. Today, Andy will discuss commercial greenhouse history. Using his own family greenhouse business, he will take you on a nostalgic trip, giving a sneak peak at how it was once done.
