Plant Light: Full Sun

  • Sun loving plants require at least six hours of sunlight a day. Select a sunny site, away from trees and shade.

Plant Feed: Apply water soluble fertilizer every two weeks, or slow release fertilizer at start of season.

  • Use a fertilizer formulated for vegetables.
  • Too much fertilizer can damage plants so it’s important to follow the directions to determine how much to feed the plant.

Watering: Keep soil moist, water freely in dry weather.

  • Plants in containers can dry out quickly, depending on the weather and may need water more frequently than plants in the garden bed.
  • Water plants in the morning or evening to avoid quick evaporation.

Pruning: Remove vegetables as soon as they mature, leaving them on the plant any longer than necessary can affect flavor and texture

  • Most container plants can be pruned freely to maintain the desired size and shape.
  • Keeping the foliage trimmed also keeps the plants looking neat and tidy, encourages the plant to develop more side-shoots and flowers, and reduces the demand for the plant to develop a larger root system.
  • Never prune away more that 1/3 of the plant or it may become weak and unproductive.

Temperature: 40º F (4º C) A warm season crop. Avoid extreme cold. If chance of frost cover
plants or take indoors.
